Timo's Doggie Photo Shoot

We’re watching Timo for Mark and Michelle today, since they have plans
with family from out of town. We took advantage of the long weekend to
clean and set everything up at our house, so we were moving things
around, vacuuming, packing and unpacking boxes… Timo is a pretty
noise sensitive dog, but he put up with everything like a champ. So,
we decided to reward him with a walk at LDAC. (Ok, so we
were going to go anyway because Cyrus needed to go to work to fix and
kick off a render for a shot.)  It was Timo’s first time visting and he LOVED it there. There were
lots of other people and doggies to meet and so many new places and
things to sniff! He even met Master Yoda, but he was more interested
in frolicking around than sitting still and learning about the ways of
The Force. :P

No Cars Go - Final Fantasy (Owen Pallett)

Arcade Fire is one of my all time favorite bands, but I actually like Final Fantasy’s version of No Cars Go better than theirs. Then again, I just learned that Owen Pallett did all the orchestral arrangements on their Funeral album, so why am I surprised? :)))

settling into our new home: a progress report

We’ve been very occupied lately. Most of our weekends have been spent
setting up the house and all that it entails: Buying stuff, returning
stuff, buying more stuff, putting stuff together, installing stuff,
cleaning up stuff… And did I mention we have to plan a wedding??!!!
Anyway, our 2 bedroom flat is finally starting to come together, but
there is still a ton of work to do!  The kitchen is our pride and joy right now. It’s mostly complete, but
we want to change the window dressing and the rugs to something a
little more modern. But with all the other stuff we have to do, that
is pretty low priority right now.

The living room is starting to feel cozy. We decided to go with
neutral colors for all the major pieces (so that they can follow us
when we move) and pop color with accessories. We obviously haven’t
gotten to the latter part yet. The picture doesn’t show it, but there
is a mirror with a cherry wood frame on the other side of the wall.
The room doesn’t have a window, so the mirror helps the room feel less
enclosed and bigger. The picture does not do the flush mount light
fixture justice. It was a splurge and totally worth it.  The bedroom is also way more cozy now than it used to be. Initially,
we had no furniture to work around, so we painted it whatever color we
wanted: a beautiful slate blue with a hint of green. Then, we realized
how much color it really was! It totally clashed with the
[temporary/old] brown curtains that we had. To neutralize the color,
we ditched all the browns and went with blacks and whites and it
worked out perfectly, transforming the room into a relaxing space.
It’s not shown but we had brand new honeycomb vertical cell blinds
installed. They provide energy efficiency and privacy, but still let
in quite a bit of sunlight, so we’re probably going to put up white
blackout curtains over it for the days that we want to sleep in. The
cal king mattress and duvet came first, before the bed frame,
nightstands, and the black pendant light, so the blue/black duvet
cover seemed like an awesome idea at the time. Now, I’m not sure if
it’s too many darks, so we may get a more textured white duvet cover
later. And yes, we didn’t tuck in the sheet on the left side of the
bed. Oops! Bed making fail…

The entryway, dining area, second bedroom/office, bathroom, and
balcony are still messy, so you don’t get pictures yet. ;)

Sportfishing with the cousins

We were going to go fishing in the afternoon but Peter’s flight was
majorly delayed, so we ended up doing twilight sport fishing from
7pm-12:30am. All the pictures you see are “before” pics, except for
the one of Stephen sleeping sitting up some time around 1am. Heh.

I regret not taking any action shots, but I was busy reeling fish
after fish in. That and I didn’t want to handle my camera with fishy
hands. We ended up catching around 80 fish between the nine of us. My
cousins and I do this yearly and this was the most successful fishing
trip by far. However, it was 2:30 in the morning by the time we
docked, so I’m not sure if we’re going to do the night time thing
again. :P

The next day, we grilled the sea bass and made some fish tacos. Yummmm.
